20% of Leaving Cert appeals result in upgrade

Some 20% of Leaving Cert pupils who appealed their results this year succeeded in getting an upgrade, according to figures published today.

The State Examinations Commission says more than one-quarter of appeals were successful in some subjects, including biology, geography, history and accounting.

Around 12% of students who appealed their Higher Level English results were granted an improved grade.
